About BPI
The Blue Planet Initiative (BPI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political, and voluntary organization committed to environmental protection, human rights, good governance, and sustainable livelihoods. Established in 2008 and registered under the Societies Registration Act with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms, Bangladesh, BPI actively promotes a cleaner environment, social justice, and equitable resource management. The organization addresses challenges like climate change, pollution, and water resource management through community-based initiatives, policy advocacy, and strategic partnerships to enhance the livelihoods of marginalized communities.
As part of its commitment to water conservation, BPI administers Waterkeepers Bangladesh, a nationwide initiative focused on protecting and restoring rivers, wetlands, and other water bodies. The initiative works to monitor water quality, prevent pollution, combat encroachments, and advocate for stronger water governance policies through research, legal actions, public awareness campaigns, and grassroots mobilization. BPI also engages with local communities, policymakers, and environmental experts while conducting capacity-building programs, training, and workshops to promote environmental stewardship. With its strategic interventions, BPI remains dedicated to safeguarding natural resources, ensuring justice, and improving the well-being of the people of Bangladesh.
